Cultivating A Passion for Shipping
At BW Epic Kosan, we are dedicated to promoting seafaring careers and nurturing talent within the maritime industry. Since June 2023, we have conducted over six visits to selected High Schools and Universities in the Philippines to raise awareness among college and senior high school students about the diverse opportunities available in the maritime sector. Our most recent campaign in May 2024 took BW Epic Kosan representatives to Agusan del Norte, Mindanao, where they met students and representatives from Caraga State University; Merchant Marine Academy of Caraga, Inc.; Cabadbaran City National High School; and Candelaria Institute of Technology.
Promoting Maritime Education
The team comprised of key personnel from our shore office and included Niraj Singh (Technical Director), Per Selmer Olsen (Head of Crewing & Regional Office Headquarter), Jaime Morales (Learning and Development Manager-Engine), and Lavern Gonzales (Operations Manager, BW Epic Kosan Manning agency). Through presentations, trivia challenges and discussions, the team showcased the various facets of the maritime industry and introduced seafaring job opportunities in an enjoyable and memorable way. The goal was to encourage students to raise awareness about the maritime industry, explore options in maritime education, and consider a career at sea as a viable and rewarding career option.
Inspiring the Next Generation
The impact of our campaign was evident as students expressed a newfound interest in maritime courses and careers. We are proud to have fostered a sense of curiosity, ambition, and determination among the students, encouraging them to consider maritime education as a viable option for their future. Our efforts align with our company values of promoting excellence, nurturing talent, and inspiring the next generation of maritime professionals.
Says Per, “Engaging with the young minds at Agusan del Norte in Mindanao has been a rewarding experience. BW Epic Kosan believes in investing in the future of maritime by inspiring and nurturing the next generation of seafarers. The enthusiasm and potential we witnessed during our visits reaffirm our commitment to creating more opportunities for students to explore and thrive in this dynamic industry.”
Adds Niraj, “It is only with talented crew and colleagues at the helm can we remain our customer’s preferred partner of choice for the safe and sustainable maritime transportation of LPG, petrochemicals and specialty gases. I look forward to welcoming these talent young men and women to the industry in the near future.”
